From this Moment On..- Health comes first.

WELCOME TO BATTLE OF THE BANDS!! aka, "BOTB".

Due to many doctor appointments and therapy, I thought I'd be absent,  but wait! I can't resist kicking one in for today. If you want to know my health status, see my main blog post at dcrelief. From this moment on, my health comes first. I think it's all about my attitude too. (Being thankful there's a chance to fully recover from a stroke.)

On with the show...

A big shout out, and thank you to our blog host...Stephen T. McCarthy

We feature two different recordings of the same song. Listen to both, and then vote for the song version you like the best.  Feel free to leave me a comment, along with your vote. Our battles take place twice a month ~ on the 1st and 15th. The results come six days later ~ on the 7th and 21st. That's when I return, add all of the votes, including mine, and announce the winner. Feel free to return and see if your choice won!

If you would like to listen, and vote in other battles, please see the participant list in the right hand margin. If you would like to join this bi-monthly blog-event, visit the blog host, Stephen T. McCarthy. Leave him a message, and your blog address. We would love to have you participate.

I wasn't going to post a battle, but it seems I have one that's ready... lucky you!

Today's featured song is "From This Moment On." Written and recorded by Canadian artist, Shania Twain. Yes! I dare to pit her original against Brazilian artists, Isael Melo and Ozielzinho. I love both versions so I have no favorite yet. Good luck with your own choice. I'll be back on July 7th to post results.

1 - Isael Melo and Ozielzinho
2 - Shania Twain

First, know that I will pray for you. I do KNOW that you will NEVER have another stroke if you keep taking that Lecithin I sent you.

I always laugh when I remember how you nearly quit BOTB because you thought you didn't do it well enough. What-a-maroon!

I also feel very honored (in some weird way) that despite your (TEMPORARY!!) poor health, and your decision to cut back from the Blogosphere until August (the month of "LEO THE LION's" birth), you're still BOTBing!

We BOTBers appreciate your toughness and commitment!

I had NO IDEA that Shania Twain was responsible for this song. I always thought of her as a neo-Country singer, but this song is Pure Pop! (Well, but then again, so is most neo-Country music "Pure Pop".)

Well, you know, PIGTAILS, that I am first and foremost a Jazzman, and so this vote was a very easy one for me...

The fine musicianship of Isael Melo and Ozielzinho trumps the "average" vocal chops of Shania by at least 5 pounds of Lecithin and a bottle of Napa Valley's 'Bread & Butter' Pinot Noir (for less than $20.00)

Thanks for playing, despite the health-za-boo-boo. I will pray, and I will call, too, within the next few days. (That's fair warning. If your phone indicates a 775 area code... "DON'T ANSWER THE PHONE!")

    1. ~ D-FensDogG, I appreciate the Lecithin and the call. I have to be my own 'best cheerleader,' to have staying power. I'm glad this post was written several months back and not used until now.

I'm happy you were impressed by both versions. I think they each bring their own merits. I know you're the "Jazz-Man." The boys from Brazil definitely bring it :).

Thanks for voting here. Happy 4th! Hope you're not working.

First vote is for Isael Melo and Ozielzinho.

  2. I don't recall ever having heard this song before, but it's a nice one. The jazz version was so beautiful and dreamy, but I did like hearing the song sung.

I'm going with Shania Twain on this match. Very nice song.

    1. Lee, Twain wrote the song in memory and dedication to her parents who were killed together in a car accident. I left out this detail so it wouldn't influence anyone's vote.

Thank you for the vote. I loved your battle. Happy 4th, Lee.

      First vote for Shania Twain.

  3. Health should always come first! Have a nice vacation and take good care of yourself, Dixie.

I remember Shania's song well and thought for sure I would choose her, BUT, I'm a sucker for good sax. Please give my vote to Isael Melo and Ozielzinho.

  4. Tough one, as Twain has a nice voice. I'll go with the first one though.

  5. This is very, very challenging for me. I love this song and though I'm not a big Shania fan, there are a few songs from her I love and this is one of them. Had you posted her song first I probably would have assured myself she was going to be my pick, but then you played the sax version. Wow! Did I love that. I grabbed me immediately. Now it's put me in a jazz mood. I need to dust off my Candy Dulfer CD's or at least look to her for an upcoming jazz themed BOTB. Again, tough, tough choice. Why do you do this to us?
Okay, I have to agree with Debbie above. If there is one thing I love, it's good sax.
Wishing you the best and placing my vote for Isael Melo

    1. Jeffrey,

Which version to place in the first slot is always a gamble to me. I never know if that influences or not. But I think having good sax is always great!

I'll log your vote for Isael Melo and Ozielzinho.

  6. Hi, Dixie!

I am very sorry to learn about your health challenges. I wish you all the best, dear friend!

I have no problem with you pitting Brazilian artists Isael Melo and Ozielzinho against Shania Twain because I found that I enjoyed their instrumental more than her vocal. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Shania's recording, but I had a visceral reaction to the evocative sax and guitar interpretation by the Brazilians. The beauty of it brought tears to my eyes. Please give my vote to Isael Melo and Ozielzinho and thank you, dear friend Dixie!

What a lovely statement. Thank you for that. Happy 4th. Thank you for voting here:).

Logging you for Isael Melo and Ozielzinho.

  7. Health is most important and I hope you are getting all the help you need. My vote goes all the way for Shania. I love her voice and I love the orchestra for this song. The first one sounded like elevator music to me

  8. It sure does seem like we all have our fair share of challenges lately. I do hope you are feeling better soon.

I've always liked this song, and I think Shania has a beautiful voice, but boy, can that sax sing or what?!?

I'm going to have to give my vote to Iseal Melo, and I do pray that you are feeling better soon.

I understand. The instrumental seems to be knocking it out of the park. I'll show your vote for Isael Melo and Ozielzinho.

  9. Dixie, I sure hope you're feeling better every day! You must have been so shocked to realize that you had a stroke. My God, that is so scary. You're absolutely right: your health comes first and foremost. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

As for your battle: wow, this is a tough one. i like both versions. At first, I thought I was going to vote against Shania but her vocals are so fantastic and powerful. But then so is that sexy sax! I really like Iseal Melo version so that's where I'm placing my vote.

Fantastic battle: both versions are excellent! I'm going back to listen to the Iseal version again...it's so addictive!

Feel better Dixie. Take good care of yourself.

    1. Michele, you're right. It was an incredible shock. I was treated for low vitamin D for several months. To find out I'd also had a stroke was overwhelming, at first, but it's good to know anyway.

Like you, I'm torn between the two versions. I still haven't made a choice.

Thank you for voting here. I'm happy you enjoyed both versions :) Hope you have a good 4th :)

I'll show your vote for Isael Melo and Ozielzinho.

  10. I'm very sorry to hear of your health troubles, and I hope to read a good report from you soon about it.

Both of these versions of Shania's song are very good. I love jazz (my last five concerts have been jazz bands) and the Boys from Brazil do an excellent job.

Normally I commend myself for never allowing the video to influence me in my voting. I listen without watching for a while first. In this case, I accidentally caught a glimpse of Shania in the beginning... and had trouble turning away. What a gorgeous woman! I knew this ahead of time, of course, but I'd not seen her in years. Somehow she avoids the limelight more than she used to, I guess.

Her voice has always been good and her songs have been more pop than country for quite a while. I never listened much but I did always like what I heard. I'd like to say that her beauty has nothing to do with my vote. But frankly I am not sure! Whatever... she gets the vote!!

    1. Sheboyganboy VI, your 'confession' of watching the video, made me laugh. She does turn heads quite a bit. As far as I know, she's still performing in Vegas. I never tire of hearing her sing.

You indeed, surprised me, not voting for the boys... hahaha! I know. Thank you for voting here.

Whatever... I'll log you for Shania. Keep looking up, and have a good 4th! :)

  12. Dixie, I was on blog break about half of last month, so I'm a bit disconnected. WOW, I'm glad the doctor made this discovery! Saying prayers you'll get back to your old self, but improved, soon. This is a beautiful, beautiful song. The instrumental cover is nice, but I just love Shania Twain, so give her my vote. Be well, my friend. Sending you hugs and love!

    1. Cathy, it's a long, sad story but my attitude is in-check. I'm more concerned about staying mobile right now, than being online, which requires a lot of sitting. you know, I'm sure.

I'm glad you could vote here. Hope your family has a great 4th.

Got your vote for Shania logged!

  13. Tonight, I'm feeling kinda SHANIA for this battle, though I have to say I liked them both.

You mentioned "a lot of sitting"...that plagues me, too. I had this wild idea that I'd get a standing desk, so I googled for this one I saw that you could use up or down. $495!! Oh, for the love of Mike. I'll find a carpenter...

    Sorry I'm late! Thanks, Dixie!

    1. $495!!! Sheesh, I 'll stick to my blocks of time on and off the internet. i try not to sit longer than 30 minutes. It's tough but better for me.

You're not late. I try to stay open until lunch time (EST) on the 7th and 21st.

So - I've got you for your 'feeling SHANIA'. Thank you for voting :)

  14. I think Shania's version gave the song more context. Isael Melo sounded great, and I'm sure his version goes over well on the smooth jazz stations, but this really wasn't a good one for an instrumental approach. I'll go with Shania Twain.
